ANIMALS AND WILDLIFE IN CORNWALL

Bluereef Aquarium, Towan Beach, Newquay
The centerpiece of the aquarium is the spectacular coral reef housed within a giant ocean display. Exotic species like black tip reef sharks, moray eels, giant wrasse and hundreds of coloured fish populate the undersea city. You can get up close from inside a walkthrough tunnel running through the centre of the reef.
For the aquarium follow signs to Newquay town center car parks. Pedestrian signs will then direct you to Towan Beach via Beach Road for level access or through Killacourt for access via steps.

Open daily from 10am.

Dairy Land Farm World, Nr. Newquay
See the cows being milked (usually 3.45-5.00pm) plus much more: Pat-aPet, Pet Parade, Bottle Feeding, Pony and Hayrides and Hands-on Milking. There are also various children's slides, play areas, ball pool and so on.
Dairyland is about 4 miles from Newquay on the A3058.
Opening Hours: 5 April to 29 October 10am-5pm. Winter opening Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun and school holidays.

National Seal Sanctuary, Gweek, Nr. Helston TR12 6UG
See animal welfare in action at the busiest seal rescue centre in Europe, where you can also encounter otters and other enchanting creatures. There is a seal hospital to visit, feeding times to catch at the seals and sea lion pools. Also explore the woodlands by the Helford Estuary.
The Seal Sanctuary is by the village of Gweek, approximately 6 miles from Helston.

Normally open from 10am daily (but check for times, especially in winter)

Paradise Park, Hayle
This is a wildlife sanctury with penguins, colourful birds, parrots, flamingos, red billed Cornish Chough, toucans, kookaburras and owls. Also there are alpacas, two kinds of otters and red pandas.
To find this Gold Visitor Attraction take the A30 to the Hayle and St.Ives oundabout and then follow the brown signs.

Screech Owl Sanctuary, Nr. Indian Queens, Goss Moor.
At the sanctuary you will see the largest collection of owls in the south of England. Over 140 owls and hawks with 50+ different species from all over the world. There is a 'Hand Tame' area and also an Owl Hospital.

To find the Sanctuary follow the A30 until you see the brown signs on the Indian Queens bypass - follow the signs. If travelling from Newquay follow signs to Bodmin on the A392/A39 until you see the brown signs.

Opening times: Spring/Summer open daily 10am to 6pm. Closed from beginning of November until February.

Springfields Fun Park and Pony Centre, St.Columb Major, Nr. Newquay TR9 6HU.
More than 25 native British Ponies to meet, ride and groom in Springfield's 'Tribute to the Pony'. There are also other animlas to meet. See the rabbits and Guinea Pigs in Pet's Corner, feed the ducks and fish, visit the Pygmy goats and chipmunks plus place your bets on the Duck Racing and see out of Donald, Daffy, Super Duck, Crazy Quackers, Cranberry and Jemima is the winner. Also other non animal attractions for the children.

Springfields is just a few miles from Newquay. Follow the brown signs off the A30 and A39.

Newquay Zoo, Trenance Gardens, Newquay TR7 2LZ.
Amongst the 10 acres of zoological gardens live hundreds of animals from around the world ranging from African lions, Siberian Lynx to tiny Arrow poison frogs and the strange endangered Lemurs and Fossa. There are special events, feeding time talks and animal encounters throughout the day. The average length of stay is 3 to 4 hours.

The zoo is just off the A3075 Edgecumbe Avenue. Simply follow the brown and white signs into Newquay and then to the zoo. There is car parking is next to the zoo.

Opening times: April to Sept 9.30am to 6pm (last entry 5pm) and October to March 10am to 5pm (last entry 4pm).
